We always say the bonefish on South Andros are never too leader shy… but we can now confirm that they’ll take a fly from even the goofiest of anglers.
This week was full of laughs, a bit of chaos & plenty of cold Kalik. We had pleasant weather all week, with a few short showers every now and again. The bonefish finally started creeping out of the mangroves as the water table began lowering thanks to a shift in the winds. We ended up with some tight shots & great eats.
If the costumed anglers weren’t unique enough, we had just as many spinning rods this week as we did fly rods. It was a true smorgasbord for the fish, from custom lead jigs, zara spooks, and yo-zuri topknocks to wooden plugs. (We always recommend bringing your own spinning gear, as our selection at the lodge is very limited.)
Take a look at this cubera snapper that was caught by Doc Carson & the late Allen Traylor from 2019.
Doc was able to honor his friend this week with an excellent ‘cuda catch as well.
Sure, the end game of fishing is to catch a fish, but we sure have fun reminiscing with friends & forging new memories to last a lifetime.
