The Bunny Snaelda – Tying Instructions

How to tie the Bunny Snaelda
Yes, please. Photos: Stuart Foxall.

Last year our pal and long time Deneki guest, Nic Jepson, shared with us a great step by step on how to tie the Franc N Snaelda – a killer European fly pattern originally designed for Atlantic Salmon that we’ve witnessed work extremely well on our king salmon at Alaska West.

Today, professional fly designer, Stuart Foxall, gives us the tying instructions on another variation of the Franc N Snaelda, first developed to reach the deep holding lies of early season Atlantic Salmon in Russia, but sure to crush anywhere king salmon can be found too.

We have a feeling this one’s a winner. Enjoy!

The Bunny Snaelda – Tying Instructions

How to tie the Bunny Snaelda
Step 1: Line your Sean Stanton Signature tube with a plastic tube liner and add a silicone tube to hold your hook.

Step 2: Tie in a long-ish tail of bucktail all round the tube, and add a few lengths of Krystal Flash.

Step 3: Wrap a cock hackle around the tube.

Step 4: Add four stripped cock hackle stalks to act as feelers. These kick and vibrate in the water current.

Step 5: Tie in as an over tail a strip of Bunny. I like to cut the tail end of mine in a ‘V’ to add taper.

Step 6: Add a few strands of mirage Roselli over the bunny along with a pair of mono eyes. These also kick and vibrate in the river’s current.

Step 7: Add a dubbed body of Ice Dub followed by a rib of silver oval tinsel.

Step 8: Scrub the dubbed body with a dubbing brush, and wrap a long fibered cock hackle at the head as a collar.

Step 9: Add a small drop of super glue to the head and slide on cone.

Step 10: Melt the end of the tube with match or lighter to secure the cone.

Bunny Snaelda tying instructions-great looking fly to bad this isn’t set up properly to print so we can take it to the tying bench. Can this be fixed so it doesn’t slice off a section from the left side?
    Thank you.,
