Don’t Forget Your Headlamp

Headlamp
Not quite equally important – but don’t forget your headlamp.

On a recent fishing trip, your humble editor forgot his headlamp.  Today’s post is a friendly Public Service Announcement: on your next fishing trip, don’t forget your headlamp!

Situations in Which a Headlamp is Very Useful

  • Unloading your car at night
  • Rummaging around in your room without waking up your roommate
  • Making a late night trip to the facilities
  • Wandering around your camp site after dark

Headlamps like this classic one by Petzl are super convenient, and they’re inexpensive enough that you might even think about keeping one in your car, one in your fishing bag, etc.

Don’t forget!

Natch, although the Tikkina is a minimalist headlamp. Much better is the Tikka Plus 2, which has the very important RED lamp option for not blinding your friends. Nothing is more obnoxious than the guy who puts on his headlamp and looks at everyone with a bright lamp–blinding them in those hazy dark mornings when you are half asleep. The red lamp is helpful for getting up at night to do your business without disrupting anyone’s delicate eyeballs–and it REALLY works great for hunting nightcrawlers poised next to their hidey-hole…
And don’t forget a few extra AAA batteries in the unlikely event that the lamp runs out of juice.
