I love bone fishing because it represents the ‘dream’, and hope of the ultimate flyfishing experience.
Feel sorry for the fish- so spooky and fragile! Preyed on by all. Love to catch ’em, turn ’em back!!
Because it isn’t ice fishing…
Cast just right, short stips at the proper time, watch the take, strip set and your on to the ghost.
Because the waters are lovely and the gear is light.
Casting into the wind at shadows…
Strip strip strip! SET!
Tug, pull, chaos, panic, sweat…
Landing, relief, smile – the release!
Spot, Stock and Shoot..It’s Hunting with a fly rod.
‘Cuz after getting married, it’s the only “bonin” I get to do.
A distant gray spot on a beautiful flat becomes a magnificent fish in your hand, 150 yards of backing later.
Palm Trees, Gin Clear Water, Sunscreen, Buff, Shrimp Patterns, 8 wt, Sight Casting, Strip, Srip Strike, Backing, Cold Kalick
spooky, white sand, warm sun, backing, beer, banter, anticipation, frustration, satisfaction, visible take, skiffs, bare foot, team work, palm trees
Fish: Invisible.
Turn: 180 degrees in 1/15th of a sec.
Run: 36ft/sec.
That’s why.
Guide, “Is that the 2nd time into the backing?” Me, “Nope, 3rd.”
Smell of salt,
Warmth of the sun,
Tight loops whispering through the breeze.
Silence broken. Scream of the drag: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
The places they take me, the people I meet along the way and the sing of the reel.
Wade in bath-temperature salt water all day and not schrivel-up like a prune.
Guide: 30 feet, cast
Me: I don’t see the fish.
Guide:Cast,strip, strip,he took it!
Me:Backing!
The mixture of hunting and fishing that takes to spot, stalk and catch a bonefish. Needless to say the scenery and diversity of life which in itself makes my day, catching a bonefish is merely the icing on the cake. And what sweet glaze it is.
unrrelated, I can’t find that fish identity question but I am sure it is a Coelecanth
I only need one word to describe why I love bonefishing: zzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ … (if that even counts as a word)
From the front porch of the world, seeing, experiencing all that is nature. Then a hookup and it’s on!
Why not!!
Because for about 2 minutes on every trip, I think I’m actually smarter than them.
