Fishpond Blizzard Soft Cooler – Why We Like It

Fishpond Cooler
Easy access.

Warning: this is a review of a not-very-technical piece of fishing gear.

We spent some time this summer and fall fishing with the Fishpond Blizzard Soft Cooler.  It’s a medium-sized soft cooler that holds 18 cans of beverages, or maybe 6 cans of beverages and a couple of lunches.

We like it.  Here’s why.

  1. Easy access.  As shown in the dramatic action shot above, it’s got a cool little trap door in the top with a velcro closure.  Just reach in and grab one when you’d like one.  Seems simple, but it’s the killer feature in our humble opinion.
  2. Doesn’t take up much room.  Compared to a hard cooler with the same capacity, it’s much easier to deal with in the back of your truck, and especially in your boat.
  3. Doesn’t leak.  After a recent weekend trip, it sat in the back seat of the car for a couple of days full of ice and water.  No leaky.
  4. Molded bottom.  It doesn’t slide around in the bottom of the boat.

Is it the right choice to keep ice for days while baking on a flats skiff in 95 degree weather?  Nope.  For the much more common ‘day in the drift boat with a couple of guys’, though, it’s perfect.

It costs $69.

Here’s our Product Review Policy and FTC Disclosure.
