Aqua Flies: Ultra Rig Kit

Stinger-style flies are the way to go when it comes to fishing on the swing. Typically tied with wire or braid, both have their respective challenges. A wire is brittle, hard to work with, and you can’t change out flies very easily, especially in the cold. If you use braid, it is soft, so larger hooks tend to “sag” during the swing, and the fly can wrap around itself during a cast.

The Ultra Rig addresses both issues and allows you to tie stinger-style flies with trailing loops without compromising rigidity and action. The combination of braid tubing provides flexibility, even in colder weather, and stays in place even while casting. You can buy all the parts for the Ultra Rig in individual pieces, or you can make it easy on yourself and get an all-inclusive kit, making it easier to set up and prep. Here is what is included in the Ultra Rig Kit:

  • 10 AquaTalon Hooks, size 2
  • 10 Aqua Flies Shanks
  • 70 inches of 50 pound Spider Wire
  • 2 feet of Ultra Tubing

The Ultra Rig Kits are available in round eye kits or return eye kits and six shank sizes:

Round Eye Kits – 26mm, 33mm, 51mm

Return Eye Kits – 27mm, 43mm, 51mm

With The Ultra Rig Kit, your Salmon, Steelhead, or Trout fly tying and fishing will definitely level up. We recommend checking in with your local fly shop to find these kits. If not, you can find them at www.jerryfrenchflyfishing.com. Jerry also did a video on tying with the whole kit here.
