The Healing Powers of Fly Fishing: Casting for Recovery

Images via castingforrecovery.org

For many of us fly fishing is an escape to flowing waters and beautiful scenery that allow us to diversify the normality of our mostly indoor and sedentary routines. Being outdoors serves as an escape for us to feel freer and more connected with nature.

People living with cancer and their families understand the impact the illness causes in their personal lives. Life plans change…school, work, and even vacations. For people stuck at home, who don’t have access to the outdoors, even a short walk outside can feel refreshing and alleviate stress and illness pressures. Imagine what a fly fishing retreat can do?

Casting for Recovery is a unique, not-for-profit organization that facilitates and provides outdoor retreats for women with breast cancer at no cost. The program offers opportunities to connect and discover the healing powers of nature both mentally and physically. Fly casting provides gentle physical therapy for women who have had surgery. The retreats are open to women of all ages and in any stage of treatment and recovery.

Casting for Recovery is currently accepting applications for the 2021 Season. You can find retreat programs in the links below.

Click here to Find and Apply to a retreat.

The applications for the retreats are within the retreat link. Of course, they will have the full COVID-19 safety protocols based on the local health guidelines and the CDC.

Being outdoors with others and fly fishing is a great way to encourage healing and recovery. If you know a woman who is currently going through cancer at any stage, encourage them to sign up. To find out more about Casting for Recovery or to donate please visit castingforrecovery.org You can even donate to a specific retreat.
