At Andros South we are lucky to have endless bonefish flats within a quick ride from Little Creek (the area where we keep our boats). More and more guests however are choosing to take a cruise down to the area we refer to as simply, “The South”. The South is made up of hundreds of small keys stretching further than the eye can see. The innumerable amount of pristine flats can put other bonefisheries to shame. The South is such a large territory that we break it down into several smaller regions, you may have heard locations such as Jackfish Channel, Water Cays, or Curely Cut Cays, these are all locations in the South. The fishery is so large that pressure from other anglers is not a thing. It is filled with some of the biggest bonefish schools we have ever seen. And these are not your small, “schooly” type of bones either. Best part, these fish love to eat! Many of the South’s flats have the hard white sandy bottom which wading enthusiast will relish. Most weeks the fishing from the boat is so good there is never a need to get into the water. If your legs are up for it, give wading the flats of the South a try. There is something special about targeting a bonefish on foot and landing it in the sand. It may be a little bit longer of a boat commute, but if you get a day with good weather, ask your guide to explore the South, we promise you wont be disappointed! The Airport down south is awesome and Tory calls it Cuda city. A lot of the food chain is in action there. On my last trip a 10ft mako ate about 3/4 of a 25lb cuda in one bite (we had no chance to keep the cuda away from the shark).
Some great times down there but the weather needs to be pretty calm or the boat ride can be daunting.
