Gear you Need // Scientific Angler Amplitude Smooth Infinity Fly Line

With the holidays quickly approaching, we figured you might be looking for a few things to ask ole Saint Nick for.  $800 fly rods can be hard to justify spending on for a holiday present, but what is actually connecting you to that fish you are reeling in?  Short answer, your fly line and our friends at Scientific Angler have created another great one.  The Amplitude Smooth Infinity is SA’s top all around freshwater line. This is not the fly line that you get to use once a year for a specific scenario.  Put this on your favorite reel and spool because this will become your go-to line for all your freshwater fishing needs.

The line was awarded “Best New Fly Line” for 2019 by Fly Fisherman Magazine and also was named the “Editors Choice for Freshwater Fly Line” by Fly Fusion Magazine. This 90 foot floating fly line comes in sizes from a weight forward 3 wt to a weight forward 9 wt.  The line is made a half size heavy to help load those fast action rods that are so popular now a days but still has the ability to be presented “softly” or with slower action rods.

The line features Scientific Angler’s exclusive AST plus, a revolutionary technology developed for SA’s fly lines.  AST plus is a patented liquid compound that actually moves within the coating.  It naturally migrates to the surface of the line as the coating beings to wear.  This extends the life of the fly line and provides out-of-the-box slickness long after you’ve first spooled it on your reel.  This technology is now found in their new family of lines, the Amplitude Smooth series. The improved slickness will allow for increased line shooting abilities to go along with a line more durable than anything else on the market. The versatile taper of the line features a longer head length to improve mending and distance casting while also offering a camo tip that floats like a boat and gives you a more subtle presentation regardless of if you are casting dries, streamers, or nymphs.

My personal favorite part of the line is that it has a braided multifilament core as opposed to a monofilament core.  Have you ever been fishing in cold temperatures and when you pull the line off of your reel, found that it is super coiled?  That is from a mono core line which can become very stiff, and hold memory, neither ideal for cold weather fishing.  The braided core used in the Amplitude Smooth is what allows this line to be fished in a range of freshwater conditions.  I just used this line fishing a Wyoming river where the temperatures didn’t even reach 30 degrees and I had no issues with the line coiling. From throwing poppers to bass in the summertime to nymphing a tailwater in the middle of winter, you can put this line on your favorite reel and know that it will be good to go regardless of when or where you are fishing.

We wanted to share with you some of our favorite new goodies incase you are needing something to add to your holiday wish list.  The Amplitude Smooth Infinity is a product that retails for under a $100, is durable enough to last more than a season, and is suited to cover a range of freshwater fishing needs.  If you are looking to give any of us a present, we would be excited to unwrap this!
