A while back, we told you about our new friends and Deneki guests, Rob Johnson and Jeremy Libby, who nabbed the first two Alaskan Grand Slams of our 2018 season on consecutive days alongside Alaska West guide, Caleb Hanna. In case you’re unaware, that’s all five species of Pacific salmon, all caught on a fly, all within a single fishing day.
Just last week however, Alaska West guest, Steve Stancel, managed to raise the bar even higher by coincidentally landing what we like to call the Kanektok Slam; that’s all five species of pacific salmon, a rainbow trout, a dolly varden, and an Arctic grayling, all caught on a fly within a single fishing day. Wow.
Take it from us, that doesn’t happen very often. Heck, there are very few rivers in the world where such a feat is even possible! So, today we’re taking the day to say congratulations, Steve! Well deserved!
