The Finer Points of Tying Blood Knots from Hatch Outdoors

When it comes to tying leaders or attaching tippet, the blood knot is one of the most widely used knots in fly fishing. That being said, we find many anglers (even experienced ones) are intimidated by the blood knot, and to that we say; don’t be!

Like any skill worth learning, knot tying takes practice to develop the dexterity necessary to tie good knots quickly. However, aside from dexterity, when it comes to tying blood knots there are actually a few fundamental tips that can make easier work of tying more dependable knots as well.

Our pal, Bruce Chard, recently put together another great segment for Hatch Outdoor’s video series on some of these tips, and if you find yourself finding comfort in the double-surgeon’s knot when you should be tying blood knots, we highly suggest giving it a watch below.

Enjoy!
