Chill Out, Use Sunscreen

Chill your sunscreen
Chill out, use sunscreen. Photo: Kyle Shea.

Sun exposure is no joke, and if you spend a lot of time on the water, protecting yourself against harmful UV rays is extremely important, particularly on the flats. Trust us on this one, please.

The majority of sunburns occur during the afternoons, when the sun is high and the sunscreen most often applied at the lodge/dock in the morning has worn off. That’s why we always encourage our anglers to apply sunscreen at least two times a day; once in the morning and once at lunch time.

That being said, we’re well aware that applying warm lotion to your sweaty face under the hot Bahamian sun sounds just about as appealing as curling up with a wet blanket.. Unless of course that lotion was refreshingly cold.

Last week we noticed Andros South guest, Callum Parrot, stashing a bottle of sunscreen in his icy cooler every morning before taking to the flats. On the last day of his trip, we couldn’t help but ask him why. His answer? “If I have to smear on lotion in 80 degree weather, it might as well be cold..”

Touché Callum, Touché.
