Spey Casting: The Perry Poke – Explained

Downstream perry poke

In case you weren’t aware, our good friends from OPST have been pumping out some pretty high-quality instructional spey casting videos of late.

In their latest videos, Deneki alum, Trevor Covich, gives the finer points of one of the most versatile skagit-style spey casts – The Perry Poke.

They’ve even broke the ‘poke’ down into two short videos highlighting both the upstream and downstream perry poke, and we just felt responsible to share them with you. Give ’em both a watch below.

These are absolutely awesome videos. As usual Trevor and OPST gets it right. Great insight on the Perry poke – my favorite cast – especially in wind. Excellent video quality as well. A very comfortable, safe cast – I use it all the time for kings on the Kanektok in those heavy westerly winds off the Bering Sea. This cast rocks!

Those two casts, up and downstream Perry pokes, solve a lot of issues and are wonderfully demonstrated in these videos. Hopefully I’ll be able to learn and look half as good doing them. Thanks!
