Shark Tooth Leader Control System

Shark Tooth
Just a nice little time saver.

This past week at Andros South we had the opportunity to try out a very cool little gadget made by Loon Outdoors – the Shark Tooth ‘Leader Control System’.

What is the Shark Tooth?

The Shark Tooth is pretty simple.  It’s an elastic band that replaces the stock band on your tippet spool.  Attached to the band is a small plastic housing that includes a hole for the tippet to pass through, a spot for your thumb to pinch off the tippet, and a little baby razor blade to cut the tippet.  You can move it from one spool to another when one spool runs out.

How Does it Work?

Well, at this point you can probably guess.  You thread the tippet through the hole in the housing (once).  Whenever you want a piece of tippet, you pull it off to length, pinch it with your thumb on the housing, and then pull it down across the little blade to cut it off.

It’s a small time saver, but in the course of a fishing day (especially if you do things like tie your own leaders), all those times you reach for your pliers or nippers can add up.

Four Sizes!

It comes in four sizes.  The small green one fits standard little tippet spools like your 5x Umpqua.  The ‘large’ red one fits what we consider to be medium sized spools like a small spool of Maxima or the smaller Rio Saltwater spool.  Their XL and XXL options fit bigger ‘guide-sized’ spools, like 220 yards of Maxima or 110 yards of Rio Saltwater mono.

We think you should give the Shark Tooth a try.  It’s not going to change you life, but it’ll save you time maybe dozens of times a day, and a two-pack will set you back all of $5.

Ah, I’ve raved about Spool Hands in the past. This might be even nicer.
