See Through Steelhead

See Through Steelhead
It's obviously a nice bright fish, but look closer... Photo: Chad Jaques

Chrome bright. Mint bright. Dime bright.  Anglers have come up with all sorts of creative ways to describe steelhead that are fresh from the salt.

“So fresh it was practically see through.”  That’s a claim that you may have heard, and may not have believed unless you’ve been lucky enough to experience it yourself.

At BC West, the furthest upriver on the Dean that we fish is 5 miles from the salt.  We spend half our days within 1 1/2 miles of the ocean.

That makes our typical steelhead incredibly fresh, but we were still blown away by this bit of documentation from Chad and Marjorie Jaques.  Chad and Marjorie own Trout Bum 2 in Park City, UT, and join us every year on the Dean.

Marjorie’s fish looks great up top.  The detail below, though, is pretty amazing.  No Photoshop involved!
