Visualizing Sink Tips

In the world of Spey casting making sure you’re using the right sink tip, let’s be honest is confusing. There are a variety of lengths, sink rates, density, and style of sink tip, and trying to match the right sink tip, to the river your fishing and your own preference can be a daunting task.

Writing about sink tips and how they “work” in a river needs to be its own book with lots of pictures. Since there currently isn’t a book on sink tips (that we know of) we at Deneki try to tackle the concept of sink tips, by relying on industry experts, guides, and our own experience to tackle tips one tip at a time.

Below is a visual aid that shows our interpretation of how some dual density like the RIO MOW Tips and straight tips may behave in a river flow. The visual aids are based on 10-foot tips. Please note, the visual aid is theoretical and a very broad interpretation and is in no way the exact behavior of a sink tip in a river, but it does give you an idea of how they work.

If you’d like a better look, download and print the visual aid, click HERE for a pdf file.
