On October 5th, 2020, the Bahamas bonefishing community took a devastating blow with the tragic passing of Captain Joseph ‘Josie’ Sands. If you were lucky enough to spend time on the water with Josie, you knew he was a true powerhouse. Josie had been guiding the flats of South Andros for over 25 years, making dreams come true for thousands of anglers during his tenure on the water. The impact of his passing has been felt around the world. We have received countless emails & phone calls from guests expressing their condolences & sympathies but most importantly, sharing their memories.
During this extremely hard time, we want to be sure that Josie’s family feels the love we all had for him by donating to his memorial fund. On behalf of Josie Sands, Deneki Outdoors will be collecting donations that will go directly to his family, funeral costs, and his two passions, sailing & bonefishing. If you would like to make a donation, here are ways you can help.
- Make a check payable to ‘Rapids Camp Lodge’ and mail it to:

I’ve been to Andros South six times and spent many days on the water with Josie. He was a great guide — pushed you to focus and to be better, but he also knew when to relax and inject his special sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed.
