Lots of Wading on South Andros

Andros Island Wading
Plenty of this. Photo: Louis Cahill

At Andros South we recently hosted an angler who has spent lots of time over many years fishing literally all over the world.  It was his first trip to South Andros.

After his second day of non-stop wading, he let the comment slip – “I always thought you guys did almost all your fishing from the boat down here.”  Wow, if this guy was misinformed a lot of people must be misinformed – so today we dispel that rumor!

We Do Lots of Wading at Andros South

How much wading depends on lots of factors including weather, tides and the preference of our guests – but overall probably half of our fishing we do on foot.  We host lots of guests who say they prefer wading, and for those folks we can definitely tailor the fishing program to be really focused on fishing on foot.

The creeks on the east side of South Andros, the legendary flats of The South, and countless interior flats all have hard bottoms and host bonefish in very shallow water – perfect conditions for wading.  The West Side (which makes up about 1/4th of our fishery) is really the only area that largely has the soft bottoms that make wading impractical.

So yes, when you come to Andros South, bring your wading boots and get ready to stretch your legs – chances are you’re going to spend a lot of your trip wading for bonefish.
