July’s third group marked the arrival of quite a cast of characters – Andrew Bennett, Michael ‘Whitey’ White, ‘Smilin’ Bill Suggs, Rob Masonis, Jeff Nielsen, Jeff Sebenik, David Tye and Tom Levandoski.
Water conditions were still on the drop from last week’s rain storm, and good numbers of steelhead (plus still more Chinooks!) were all over the lower river beats. Suffice to say enough fish were hooked that many lost count. 4 here, 6 there…one pair had over 20 hook-ups in the Cedar Hole in one shift!
Fast water and hot Steelhead pulled many hooks, and broke a few leaders and hearts. The upper river picked up, including the first dry fly fish of the season for ‘Smilin’ Bill…Hence the ‘smilin’ part.
