Steelhead Tips from Scott Baker-McGarva

Scott Baker-McGarva is our head guide at BC West, and he knows a thing or two about swinging flies for steelhead.

Today we’ve got a video featuring Scott with a couple of tips on steelhead fishing that are pretty simple, but really important.

  • Fish your bad casts.  Let ’em swing right into the bank, even if they’re shorter than you think might be cool.  A fly in the water catches a lot more fish than a fly being stripped in and cast again.
  • Be ready for a take as soon as your fly hits the water.  Even if you’re still stripping off line, pay attention!

Love the advice about fishing out a bad cast…it is the same advice we give our Montana fishing clients: keep you flies in the water!
