We’re really lucky at BC West to have Jim Sirois as our friend and neighbor.
Jim grew up in the little town of Ocean Falls, BC and had a very successful career in aerospace and manufacturing product development (!). He’s spent most of the last 20 years in a log cabin on the Dean River, where he takes incredible pictures, writes great books, and really, really loves the outdoors.
Jim has published a handful of books, a couple of which are of particular interest to us at BC West.
Kimsquit Chronicles is an amazingly detailed and well-researched history of the area around the Dean River. Sorry, Kimsquit Chronicles is out of print, but we’ve got some copies at the lodge!
Grizzly Chronicles is a collection of entertaining stories and great photographs of his neighbours, the grizzly bears of the Dean and Kimsquit Rivers. We’ve got some of the pictures from Grizzly Chronicles posted around the lodge – let’s just say you won’t believe some the the shots Jim has gotten over the years!
Jim’s got a web site with more information about a couple of his books, and you can check that out here.

My husband and I were old friends of Jim. The last time I spoke to him was to tell him of Larry’s passing. I had not talked to him since. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. I do not know how to get in touch with either of his daughters or ex-wife. Please give them my very deepest sympathy if you can. If they are interested in contacting me you can give them my e-mail address.
Sincerely,
Judy Azure

I met Jim while working at Tektronix in Beaverton, OR and did some drawings checking for him and his business. He invited me to go with him to his log cabin on the Dean River, and add some siding on the the “Crows Nest” he had built when guests came to visit. I am lucky enough to have a copy of two of his books, “Afloat In Time” a book about his Grandfather logging history at Nootum Bay in the lower Burke Channel. The 2nd book is the wonderful collection of Bear Photos at the Dean & Kimsquit Rivers. I have tried to contact Jim many times, to no avail. This is the 1st information I have been able to find about Jim, and now know, as I had suspected, Jim is no longer with us. I was just hoping that the bears did not get to him, as the reason for his passing. I would appreciate any information about when he passed, and if it was a natural passing. Thank you for this information I found today.
