Dana Sturn, founder of speypages.com, runs hosted trips to BC West for Chinook salmon and early steelhead.
Dana put together this video that gives a little introduction into our fishery. It includes some great footage shot on the helicopter flight into the lodge and some nice hero shots as well. You’ll just have to put up with the commentary from the Deneki guy!

Dana’s hosted week at BC West takes place from July 3rd to the 10th in 2010. Drop us a line if you’d like to learn more!

Ross,
Since I’m headed to the Dean next week, I figured I’d take a shot at your question. I have fished the Dean for a number of consecutive years and I can honestly say that it’s one of the most wade-able of all Steelie rivers that I fish. The rocks are most often not that big and typically very clean as the river does have some push to it. I have fished it usually in late July and Early August and by that time the water has come down quite a bit as well. There are a few areas where you do get some moss build up, but like most Steelhead rivers I typically fish with cleated or spiked boots. I just put the finishing touches on my new Streamtread Boots by adding some spikes. Other than those few areas, most of the river is easily manageable and pretty easy to wade, when done so with caution.
Hope this helps.
