Sage Xi3 Rods

We couldn’t take pictures of the prototypes…so here’s a tarpon!

Since 2004, the Sage Xi2 series has been the go-to rod lineup for many anglers fishing in saltwater. Powerful, versatile and fun to cast, these rods had a really successful run, for good reason.

But the torch has been passed on! Sage has just announced the successor to the Xi2 and has named it…yep, the Sage Xi3 Series.

To be honest, we’ve been having a hard time keeping our mouths shut. We had the chance to fish a few of the Xi3 prototypes on South Andros and in the Florida Keys over the past year, and we’re here to tell you that these rods are a big upgrade.

Sage will tell you all about the new manufacturing processes used in the creation of the Xi3s. What we know from fishing them is that they’re lighter and more powerful but still maintain that really sweet feel the we loved in the Xi2.

When we heard the claim that the Xi3s were supposed to be ‘more accurate’, we pretty much called B.S. But then we fished them, and sure enough, that fly tended to land a lot closer to where we wanted it to land. These rods are definitely worthy successors to the Sage saltwater throne.

We’ll be casting production versions of the Xi3s at Fly Fishing Retailer in Denver next weekend – we’ll follow up with details on specific models.

Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters has the Xi3s in stock.
