A couple of weeks back we asked you about your wading boots. With recent news about aquatic invasive species, we wanted to know what kind of soles you’re using on your boots, and why.
We got a really wide range of responses – from ‘Vibram only’ to ‘felt only’ to ‘a mix’ to ‘felt with studs’ to ‘using felt but I want Vibram’. Your responses seem to be very much in line with how we feel about wading boots – we know felt can be dangerous if you change watersheds and we’re conscious of keeping things clean, but we’re not rushing out right now to replace all of our felt-soled boots.
Regardless, if you’re not up to speed on the dangers posed by invasive species, you need to do some remedial studying right now. Bad critters like the New Zealand mudsnail can hitch a ride on your wading gear from one piece of water to the next, and they’re capable of doing a lot of damage to waters that you care a lot about.
