On June 27th we kicked off our 2009 season here at BC West and without question, we hope that the next nine weeks are as enjoyable as the first.

Don Kauffman started things off on the first day with a hot chrome-bright Chinook and announced that his week was all gravy from there on out.
Throughout the week everyone was exactly as we hope all guests are here on the Dean. When fish were being caught they fished hard, were grateful for every fish and never ceased to get excited when hooked up. During the slower periods they enjoyed the scenery and conversation on the river while taking in everything around them with quiet contentment. At the lodge during social times conversation never stopped and subject matter was incredibly varied, interesting and entertaining.
Finally, we cannot forget to mention the two chinook Brian Rogers landed during the week. He had visited in 2008 and during his week he was “educated” by eleven chinook, failing to land a single one. He swore he would return until he landed one of these great fish and this year he did, with his best being about 25 pounds. It should also be mentioned that he was once again “educated” by some others. There are pretty good odds that he will be back in 2010 to try his hand at landing a “freight train” – his term for those fish that grab the fly and never stop running downriver.
Betcha some are still running in his dreams at night.
