Last year at Alaska West, we ran a pilot transfer program in which we chartered a Fairchild Metro to fly some of our our guests direct between Anchorage and Quinhagak, eliminating a stop in Bethel on inbound and outbound trips to our lodge.
The program worked well and our guests loved cutting out the extra leg of travel, so this year we upgraded to a Super DC-3, operated by Transnorthern Aviation.
Please stow your fly boxes and put your seats in the upright and locked position.
The real benefits of the charter flight are that you save bunch of time in Bethel and eliminate an extra flight, which is always a big advantage in bush Alaska. The ‘intangible’ benefit of our charter flight this year is that…it’s a really cool plane.
The cabin is really roomy, the seats are first class, the legroom is ridiculous, and there’s even an onboard lavatory. It’s a really cozy ride, and to be honest it seems like magic to get on a plane at the shiny Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage and climb off a couple hundred yards from the Kanektok.
It’s now safe to move about the ginormous cabin.
