The Kanektok River, home of Alaska West, is a productive, healthy fishery, and that gives us and our anglers the opportunity to bring some fish home to eat.
We love and respect the river and the fish in it, and that means we work hard to be responsible when we choose to harvest a fish. We enforce strict limits on retained fish – limits well below what fishing regulations allow – and we’re very selective in which fish we don’t let go.
That being said, it’s a privilege to be able to bring home beautiful, bright salmon to eat. We handle our fish well and take our fish processing and packing seriously. Most of the fish our guests bring home is packed fresh, but we also provide an option for folks to bring home smoked salmon.
Cleaning, filleting, brining, smoking and finally packing fish is quite a project! Over the years we’ve developed a tagging and tracking system, a modified smoker, and a recipe for smoked fish that you won’t get out of us even if first-born children are involved. It’s real, real good.
There’s nothing like getting home and serving friends and family a beautiful smoked salmon fillet from a fish that you caught in one of the most pristine fisheries on the planet!
