There are a lot of cool looking fish on the planet, but we really think that a ‘clowned up’ dolly varden from Western Alaska has got to be one of the coolest, wildest looking fish ever.
We catch these psychedelic critters in August at Alaska West.

Stunning fish.
Heidi Sue says
Looks like a brook trout!
Steve says
Nope, definitely not photoshopped! I forgot about this photo I took back in August. These fish are truly beautiful and we as anglers are lucky to be able to see them up close. Now, what to do with the pic….

Thanks for the photo, Steve – credit added!
Michael W. Miller says
When it comes to vibrancy of colour, what is prettier than a clown-
phase Dolly Vardon trout? To my eyes, nothing else.Anywhere.Anyhow.
This is the reason I am having painted for me a singular oil painting of two, I’m afraid, modest-sized Dollies, along with the rod and flies I
caught them with. Even if I never return to A.W., I will be reminded of
eager, hungry, fly-eating trout, with colours unworldly, which tired my arms, but never my eyes, every time they find the painting.
andrew says
That’s fantastic, Michael. We’d love to see a photo of the painting when it’s done!
