We recently commissioned Solitude Fly Company to help create a series of flies specific to our fisheries at each of our lodges, Alaska West Lodge, Andros South Lodge, and Rapids Camp Lodge. Each fly was developed with careful consideration, a plethora of experience, and a lot of testing for approval.
Our first featured fly is the Deneki Mantis Shrimp to target bonefish at our Andros South Lodge. Not unlike a lot of other shrimp patterns, this fly represents a mantis shrimp with an egg sack. But unlike a lot of other flies, we wanted a lighter fly that lands softly, yet still has a larger profile on the flats, and won’t tangle itself while casting in windy conditions. Given the response at Andros South Lodge, it seems the is bonefish approved.
Although we don’t have a specific recipe, we do have a list of ingredients for you to try tying on your own. Or, if you come down to Andros South Lodge, we’ll have plenty of these flies for you to use.
