Destination fishing for fly anglers is awesome. If you have never fished waters where you have to fly to get there, you should do it. It’s a hoot. For those of us who have done it once, twice, or multiple times, you know packing correctly is a burden. You spend a lot of time debating whether you’re packing too much or not enough. Regardless, of how much you pack, your rods are coming with you and when it comes to packing rods, safety is key, regardless of how bulky or difficult it is to transport.
On a recent trip to the Naknek River in Alaska, our tester brought 4 Spey rods all neatly wrapped in the Vedavoo Spey Rod Quiver, while the rest of us strapped, wrapped, tied, or taped a combination rod tubes and other tubes, creating bulky, difficult to carry, bundles of rods.
The Vedavoo Spey Rod Quiver is the solution to reduce bulk and transport your rods safely. The innovative “ying-yang” packing design allows you to carry two rods per side, for a total of four rods, it is much easier to transport and takes up a lot less space in the bulkhead of a plane, super important when doing fly out trips. Foam padding offers rod protection, whether flat or rolled, but the genius part is when it is rolled it up, it increases the integrity of the quiver providing additional protection and security. The rumor is Vedavoo, rolled up four rods, and sent it through the mail, and it was received with no breakage.
The well thought out double-sided design keeps efficiency and rod safety in mind. The River Quiver not only is designed for single hand rods but also Spey rods. Thank goodness because finding rod carriers that will carry more than one Spey rod is tough. The Spey Rod River Quiver carries up to four, 4-piece Spey rods up to 13’6” in length in a single, compact, and safe package. They also make a quiver to match with your 3 piece fiberglass rods.
Our challenge was trying to find something wrong with it. It was tough. The only thing that could make this better is if they had velcro straps to manage the excess straps, so they don’t catch on anything. Of course, this is easily managed with a couple of rubber bands.
Overall the Vedavoo River Quiver is a functional, efficient piece of gear to manage and travel with multiple rods. Even if you don’t do a lot of flying it will make packing your vehicle more efficient. Fly out fly fishing trips, or fishing roadside waters, the Vedavoo Rod Quiver is a highly recommended piece of gear. You can find Vedovoo products at local fly shops.
