Silver Salmon at Alaska West

Fly Patch During Silver Season.

We are privileged to have two of the top fishing lodges in Alaska, both of which offer fantastic fishing for silver salmon.   Arguably the most acrobatic of the salmon species, silvers are known for their high flying aerial displays. They will aggressively attack a range of different flies, most notably bright pollywogs and pink bass poppers.  Not trying to toot our own horn here or anything but we’ve even caught silvers on a golf tee before so, toot-toot! Silver’s are the last salmon of the year to run and we couldn’t imagine a better way to close out our season.

Here are 5 oldies but goodies, some of our favorite previous post covering the Silver Salmon.  Want to experience some of the best silver salmon fishing in the world?  Shoot us a message!

We have also caught Silvers on orange ear plugs glued on a hook and used as a popper, Corn Nuts super glued on hooks have caught a couple as well! Another thing that works great is to slice strips from a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup wrapper and tie it to a hook, it makes a quick Orange and Silver Flash Fly. The Kanektok is incredible!

If the jigging action of a sliver fly works well with lead eyes do you use the permanent loop knot to tie on the eye to create more of a jigging action?

    Hi Jere,

For the most part a good loop knot that can be tied as small as possible works great. It does give it even more action and when it comes to coho that’s what they really really want!
