Yesterday we touched on some of our highlights from 2019. With 2020 now upon us, we figured it is time to switch gears and focus on goals for the New Year. We are very proud of our 2019 resolutions and don’t want them to be forgotten as we feel they are all equally important to continue with into 2020. Read them here. Going along with those resolutions, we would like to bring up a few goals or items that are on many fly anglers bucket lists’s that we want to help you achieve in 2020.
- Catch a 10 pound Bonefish. This is a feat every flats fisherman or woman covets. A 10 pound Bonefish is a true fish of a lifetime and every year we are humbled to help a few our guests check this off their list. If you visit Andros South, it is no guarantee that you will land an 10 pounder but we don’t know of any other spot on the planet where you will get more opportunities to cast at one. Just this year we have already had multiple guests land 12 pounders! To help put this in perspective, a Bonefish this size is over 30 inches long.
- 30 Inch Naknek Rainbow on the Swing. Every September some truly massive Rainbow Trout drop out of Naknek Lake and move into the Rapids section of the river below. We like to think of these fish as Steel-bows, even though they never spend any time in the ocean, they act more like Steelhead than Rainbow Trout. We target them with a two handed rod and get some voracious eats. The swift current combined with the powerful fish means you are in for one heck of a fight. Every year this stretch of river produces some of the largest Rainbows in the world and our guides specialize in getting these giants into the net.
- A Kanektok Slam. Those who are not familiar with the Kanektok River might not believe this to even be possible. All 5 species of Pacific Salmon (King, Chum, Pink, Sockeye, Silver), a rainbow trout, dolly varden, and grayling, all on flies, and all in the same day. During late July, there is a chance you can tackle this incredible accomplishment at Alaska West. It is no guarantee but with the almost unheard of diversity of the Kanektok and the best guide staff on the river, we would love to help you try.
Do you want to try and achieve any of the above bucket list items? Or do you have any of your own fishing goals that we can help make happen? Give us a shout here and let’s put together a game plan!
Wishing you the best in the coming year!
