Timeless Tips // Sick Of Frozen Guides?

We want to be out fishing, regardless of how intimidating the thermometer reading is.  There is some great gear available to keep you warm during even the coldest conditions, if only there was something we could do to stop the annoying ice from forming on your rod’s guides right?  Well there is a solution and it also happens to be the cure for chapped lips.

Are you out fishing in below freezing conditions?  Lightly coat the rod guides with some lip balm and you will be able to continue to fish without your rod freezing over so regularly.  Modern fly lines do a great job of wicking away moisture, one of the reasons they continue to float so well.  Unfortunately for the winter angler, fly lines wicking away water leads to more water droplets on your rod and therefore it freezing over more often.  Give the chapstick method a try to keep you casting on even the coldest of days!

Never been a problem – my solution is pick up a gun and go kill something – it will warm up enough to fish soon!
