Happy Memorial Day

Photo: Screenshot from movie below.

We wanted to send out a special thank you to all the people who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It is important to remember that freedom isn’t free. Some people have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country and this should be recognized everyday of the year, not just on Memorial Day.

This day did seem like an appropriate time to recognize a non profit organization, Project Healing Waters, that “is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing.” With over 200 programs nationwide, volunteers pair up with wounded veterans who get to experience the physical and emotional healing powers associated with fly fishing. NBC News did a segment on the organization that can be viewed below.

NOTE: If you’re viewing this in a newsletter or a reader, click here to see the video on our website.

Fly fishing truly is a special sport that is about so much more than just catching fish. Project Healing Waters recognizes this by not only offering time on the water, but bonding and socialization through fly fishing and tying classes with people who have experienced similar hardships while fighting for our Country. It is this camaraderie through fly fishing that is priceless to the participants. These retreats serve as so much more than just a fishing trip. For information on how you can get involved, check out the following link. This does not need to be a monetary donation, simply promoting the organization or sharing it with disabled veterans who have made incredible sacrifices in the service of our nation helps greatly. Again, Happy Memorial Day and thank you to our veterans! And most importantly, Rest in Peace to our heroes.
