Gear You Need // Celestron Hand Warmers

This is not the most seasonally appropriate gear review but on a recent Steelhead trip, I was able to use the Elements Thermocharge Hand Warmers from Celestron and left so impressed with the product that I had to share it.  The concept of electric hand warmers was new to me as I have only ever been exposed to the single-use, disposable hand warmers.  All you need to do is hook the device up to a USB charger and the following day you will be rewarded with 6 hours of continuous heat.  The 4400 mAh rechargeable lithium battery can heat the hand warmer up to 113 degrees fahrenheit. The small device fits perfectly in wader pockets or any other convenient location.  I left mine the the front wader sleeve.  After I would cast, my left hand would go straight into the pocket and hold the Thermocharge as my flies swung.  Any break I took I was instantly rewarded with warm hands, which is especially nice for me as I cannot stand fishing with gloves.

The device has a rugged aluminum housing giving it a shock proof design.  It also has protective silicon caps for the outlets allowing it to be water resistant and splash proof.  Additionally, you can bring a USB cord with you and use the Thermocharge to charge up devices like smart phones, MP3 players, and cameras.  With its bomb proof design and ability to recharge, this hand warmer will do its job day after day, season after season.  Think of all the single use hand warmers you no longer need to buy and will now stay out of the landfill.

We are heading in the right direction on the calendar towards warmer weather but this is a product I cannot recommend highly enough if you fish in cold locations at some point in the year.
