Tying Beck’s Sili Legs

Jack Reis is back with another edition of Fly Tying Friday. With it being winter here, our minds are on warmer climates and hungry bonefish. Beck’s Sili Legs is a classic saltwater fly that gets it done on flats worldwide. It is quick to tie and looks equally good in the fly box and in the water. A favorite variation of ours for Andros South is using orange EP Fibers as opposed to chartreuse. As with all of our flats flies, we like to tie them in a range of weights. Be sure to have a couple with just bead-chain eyes for those windless days or the shallow feeders. A video of the original is below! NOTE: If you’re viewing this in a newsletter or a reader, click here to see the video on our website.

Materials:

  • Hook: Daiichi 2546 – sz. 2-6
  • Thread: UTC 140 – Fl. Chartreuse
  • Tail: Lagartun French Mini-Flatbraid – Pearl
  • Body: Lagartun French Mini-Flatbraid – Pearl
  • Wing: Krystal Flash – Pearl, EP Fibers Original – Chartreuse
  • Legs: Crazy Legs – Pearl/Fl. Orange Tipped
  • Eyes: Spirit River Dazl-Eyes
