Over the last ten years or so, the notion of ‘trout spey’ has become one of the fastest growing sectors of fly fishing.

We love targeting trout on swung flies with small spey/switch rods and we do a decent amount of it at both of our lodges in Alaska. Nonetheless, with more trout-appropriate spey rods available than ever before, choosing the right rod can be a bit daunting to the uninitiated.

Luckily, long time Deneki pal and spey guru, George Cook, recently teemed up with our friends at North 40 Fly Shop to put together an informative video on choosing a proper two-hander rod for trout, depending on the size flies and fish you intend to pursue.

Give it a watch below!
