We just kicked off our season at Alaska West and we’re happy to report that our first run of king salmon have arrived! Despite higher-than-average water conditions, our opening day yielded steady action, with some healthy adult kings landed, and more than a few heartbreakers lost.

We’re going to be on-site all season long and plan on keeping you current with the latest stories, reports, fishing tips, and gear reviews throughout the summer.

Here’s to another incredible season to come and we hope to see you there!

What’s your usual tactic for fishing kings? I was on the Kenai just yesterday (not fishing, just floating) during the first run of sockeye, and anglers were basically snagging fish in the mouth. They were using flies, but that was about the only resemblance to fly-fishing.
