Stick It to the Taxman

Fly fishing for lemon sharks at Andros South
C’mon Grant, have some fun out there. Photo: Philip Knowles.

It’s tax season, and what better way to cope than by sticking it to the Taxman himself.

Due to their tendency to collect a portion of tropical angler’s hard-earned, sharks have been appropriately dubbed ‘the Taxman’ by the angling community. Those who have fished on South Andros know the Taxman well. With populations of lemon sharks, blacktips, bull sharks, nurse sharks, tiger sharks, and hammerheads to name a few, it’s not uncommon to see multiple species of sharks on any given day.

That being said, the species we see most on the flats are lemons and blacktips, and contrary to popular belief both can be extremely fun to catch on flies!

So, the next time you visit South Andros, be sure to pack the 12-weight along. Stick it to the Taxman. Sounds good doesn’t it?
