How to Avoid Twist in Your Fly Line – Video

Fly line twist
Fix it. Photo: Kyle Shea.

Whether you fish freshwater or saltwater, warm water or cold water, single or double handed rods, or all of the above, fly line twist happens to everybody. But, believe it or not, it can be easily fixed!

We recently stumbled upon a great video put together by our friends at RIO on how to avoid those frustrating twists in your fly line, and encourage fly anglers of all backgrounds and abilities to give it a watch.

The video digs deep into the difference between fly line twist and memory, common causes, how to remove line twist from both single and double handed setups, as well as how to reduce line twist from the get-go when rigging up. Take some of the stress out of your next day on the water and give it a watch below.

Enjoy!

I can attest to the effectiveness of the swivel, especially if you have not perfected your two handed casting. When fishing at night it provided the best way to know the position of the head. There is no problem in the swivel going through the guides. It is a must have for popper fishing. To put it into perspective I have been using the rod spin method for 15 years or more. I will be trying the swivel between my line and backing for heavy saltwater when doing a lot of casting.
