Do you love fly fishing? Do you love fly fishing for bonefish? Then it’s time to do something for yourself and start handling them using the best practices possible. After all, the more bonefish handled responsibly, the more bonefish you get to fish for.
The fine folks at Bonefish and Tarpon Trust just released a great video on the best handling practices for bonefish starring our pal and BTT Bahamas Initiative Manager, Justin Lewis.
Aside from some awesome Bahamas bonefish footage, the video offers some great new tips and information on handling bonefish – some of which you may have never heard before such as:
- You should never use anything less than 12 lb. tippet (we couldn’t agree more).
- When reviving bonefish, sliding them back and forth in the water is NOT the best method.
- Handling fish while wearing sun gloves damage a bonefish’s skin by removing protective slime.
For details on the above and more handling tips, give it a watch below.
