How To Set Up a Trout Spey Outfit – Video

How to set up a trout spey outfit from Rio
Watch how below! Photo: RIO Products screenshot.

Trout spey has been growing increasingly popular of late, and for good reason, its super fun! We do a lot of it at our Rapids Camp and Alaska West operations, and fish with more and more anglers each year who are interested in sticking trout on two handers.

However, over the last five or so years alone, spey rodding for trout has undergone a huge transformation, with more rod, reel, and especially line options than ever before, making it confusing for those looking to get started.

Fortunately, the good folks at RIO recently put out a great video which we think does a great job at explaining not only how to set up a spey/switch rod for trout, but also how to choose an appropriate two-hander for the size trout you expect to target, as well as how it compares to an equivalent single hand rod, and today we share that video with you!

If you’ve been wanting to give trout spey a try, but aren’t sure quite how to get started, we highly recommend giving it a watch below. Enjoy!
