Just when you thought some things couldn’t be improved upon, Simms does it again.
Neoprene reel covers have been accompanying reels for a long time, and they do a fine job at protecting expensive reels from ugly dings and scratches. Their downside? Being an impermeable waterproof material, neoprene does a good job at keeping water water out, but does just as good a job at keeping water in as well. Thus, neoprene covers can take a long time to dry out when wet, and stuffing soggy reel covers into a bag of dry gear and/or clothes can be a bummer.
Instead, Simms’ new Bounty Hunter Mesh Reel Pouches are made with a neoprene front panel to protect the face of the reel, while rubberized mesh side panels allow the pouch to dry quickly. Reels can also be rinsed down after a day in the salt (something our staff does at the end of each day at Andros South) without ever removing the reel case. Its a simple, yet clever solution to a frustrating problem, and for $14.95 – $19.95, we think its a pretty sound investment for protecting that several-hundred dollar reel.

Another benefit to the see through mesh on the bounty hunter reel pouches would be reel identification. Most every Hatch, Lamson, Nautilus, etc. reel pouches look the same. By using the mesh, one can quickly find a needed reel or size by being able to see through the reel pouch!
