HMH Releases New Shank Adapter Tool

HMH Shank Adapter.
Finally, a solution. Photo: HMH Vises.

When it comes to species like salmon, steelhead, and even large resident trout, we tie a lot of stinger style flies over the course of a year. Although, when tying stinger style patterns, not all shanks are created equal, and a while back we told you how much we really like tying on OPST’s Steelhead Shanks.

One thing we really appreciate about OPST shanks is the lack of an ‘articulated bend’ at the back of the shank allowing hardware like beads or cones to be easily slid onto an entirely straight shank. However, the only downside to a straight shank was a quick and simple way of providing a firm hold in a standard tying vise.

That’s why when we first heard rumors from our friends over at HMH of a new tool in the making, designed to fit into the jaws of most standard vises, and securely hold straight shanks and small tubes, we were extremely excited.

Well, we were even more excited when we were told that HMH’s new Shank Adapter Tool is now available! Designed to clamp into any standard vise, the Shank Adapter Tool provides a firm hold on most straight shanks, along with tubes up to 3/32 inch diameter. We think its a game changer for anyone looking to tie stinger-style flies on straight shanks, and is sure to have earned a place on our tying bench.

For more information, visit your local fly shop, or check out the Shank Adapter Tool on HMH’s website by clicking right here.
