Bad knots are a bummer.. But even a knot tied to perfection is often still the weakest link of any setup. That’s why successful anglers are usually pretty particular about the knots they use.
We’re asked all the time what our ‘knot of choice’ is for particular rigging situations, and one question we hear often is “what loop knot do you prefer when attaching your leader to the loop in the fly line or sink tip?”
Those of you who have been following along for some time are well aware that we’re big fans of the non-slip mono loop knot for a whole bunch of applications in both fresh and saltwater. However, several of our guides have recently grown fond of another knot when attaching their leader to the loop in their sink tip or fly line, particularly when targeting big fish that pull hard like king salmon, steelhead, and so on.
It’s called the ‘king sling,’ and it makes for a super strong loop knot that with a little practice is quick and easy to tie, even when it’s difficult to see. That’s a win win in our book and we think you should give it a try!
