Just a reminder that when fighting big fish, we really like the down and dirty approach – pulling hard, with the rod tip low and to the side, thus bending the rod deep into the butt section. Click on almost any part of the previous sentence for a visual of what we mean.
We find the majority of large salmon and steelhead are lost due to the angler failing to put enough pressure on the fish throughout the fight. Big fish are strong and, well, big! They’re not going to give in to subtle pressure of the rod tip. They need to be bullied by the power of the butt section of the rod, and fighting down and dirty is the best way to do that.
Fight dirty, land more fish.
