Despite our late run of chum salmon here at Alaska West, our annual run of silver salmon showed up a little early this year, and in no way are we complaining about that.
The coho are in full swing now, and aside from showing up early, we’re also seeing a substantial increase in the average size of the silvers as well!
Many of our returning guests have been pleasantly surprised by the number of big silvers caught throughout the week, and we’re really, really excited about that.
Sort of like this slab of a silver caught by Alaska West guest, Teri Beatty.
Nice fish, Teri!

You’re not kidding….silvers have shown up early in many rivers and they are larger than usual. Pink Pollywogs and Chernobyl Wogs have been flying off the shelves. Chartreuse Dolly Llamas, Salmon Zonkers, and Krystal Egg Sucking Leeches have been the ticket on Kenai area streams. What have they been hitting on the Kanektok?
