Simms G3 Guide Boots

Simms G3 Guide Boots Review
Good as new. Photo: Kyle Shea.

Last year Simms released their latest version of their ever popular G3 Guide Wading Boots.

We’ve logged a lot of hours in past models of the G3 Guide series, and we think these are the best model yet. Here’s why.

  • Bombproof Design. By far our favorite aspect about the G3 Guide Boots is their extremely durable design. They just might be the most bomber wading boots we’ve ever put on our feet. In fact, the photo above was taken after a full season in Alaska (somewhere in the vicinity of 100 consecutive days of heavy use). We’re happy to report that we didn’t experience even one form of failure, and we think that’s pretty impressive.
  • Big Time Support. We really like the rugged design coupled with the high ankle support of the G3 Guide Boots. Rolling an ankle is a great way to ruin a quality fishing trip, particularly when fishing in remote locations. We tend to fish far from a physical therapist, so we really dig this feature.
  • Lighter Than You Think. Sure, they might not be as light as your running shoes, but we were shocked when we first picked up a pair. Simply put, for as durable as they are, we were impressed at how light Simms was able to make them, making for a lot less work during a long day on the water.
  • Super Comfortable. It’s hard to fully enjoy a day on the water if you’re uncomfortable. That’s not a problem with these boots. According to Simms, the latest G3 Guide Boots were designed with a number of new features to make for a more comfortable and better fitting boot than their previous models. We’re not going to pretend to understand the finer points of boot design, but we can say is we’ll take their word on it because these boots are pretty darned comfy.

The Simms G3 Guide Boots retail for $199.95, not cheap, but if you’re considering logging more than a few trips a year, we think they’re well worth the investment.
