We want to extend big Kudos to Alaska West guest Kasey Halcro. Kasey started his morning yesterday planning to target silver salmon early in the morning and hoping to find the clowned up dolly varden of his dreams in the afternoon. Pretty typical day at Alaska West in August.
What Kasey did not expect is that on this day he would catch all 5 species of pacific salmon on the fly. We call that a grand slam and we think that’s really cool.
There aren’t many places on the planet this can be done. In fact, Kasey may very well be one of a handful of anglers to achieve this feat throughout the entire world this season! We catch a few grand slams every summer on the Kanektok and we think that’s pretty darned special.
So what about that dream dolly? As you can see… Kasey caught him too.
Side note to this story.. Ray Smith, who has fished with Alaska West for well over 20 years caught his 3rd grand slam ever today. Nice work guys!
