Wow is time ever flying by, as we leave week 7 and enter week 8 at BC West!
Our first full week in August was met by some bright hot weather that bumped up the otherwise dropping and clearing flow. As high as the water has been this year, this bump was still greeted as a good thing as there is such thing as ‘too clear’ sometimes.
Regardless of the river showing some new color, the fish still seemed to prefer smaller patterns fished in the heavier water and heads and extreme tails of runs – this was no doubt caused by the increasing number of Pink and Chum Salmon entering the river and occupying all the ‘soft’ water.
August is the month when the upper river program lights up in big way and this season is no exception. Excellent conditions allowed for fish on dry lines and skaters as well as traditional wet fly swings on light tips. Guests were Dean River regulars David and Dan Higman, as well as returning guests Jason Haase, Lance Watkins, Cam Groner, David Baca and new Dean angler Jeff Malzahn.
